Organizing Change in Your Community Want to learn how to organize change in your community? Voices of UH and Circle K International at the University of Houston are inviting three speakers to share their experiences in community outreach, including a panel discussion and audience Q&A. SPEAKERS: - Sri Preston Kulkarni, 40, has served in the United States Foreign Service for fourteen years and as a Foreign Policy & Defense Advisor on Senate Armed Services Committee. (Fun fact: in high school, he was a Key Club Lieutenant Governor!) - Mike Floyd, 19, is currently serving on the Pearland ISD Board of Trustees. He is also serving as the youngest-ever State Treasurer for the Texas Democratic Party. - Marcel McClinton, 17, is a senior at Stratford High School and is a candidate for Houston City Council At-Large Position 3. He is also currently on the Mayor’s Commission to End Gun Violence. Topics include the importance of civic participation, how to give back to one's community through public service, and engaging traditionally-excluded communities. All attendees will be able to write letters to representatives throughout the event. Food will be provided! The event will be held on Tuesday, April 2nd 2019, 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the Honors College Commons. |
