#WithRefugees
November was focused on refugee and immigrant outreach. For every 2 seconds that passes by, someone was uprooted and forced to flee due to violence, conflict or persecution.
It's a Global Challenge.
Houston welcomes more refugees than any other American city and more than most other nations. Harris County alone welcomes about 25 of every 1,000 refugees that the U.N. resettles anywhere in the world.
For this reason, our mission is to make an impact on the local level by raising awareness as well as funds for relief abroad. UH CKI stands together #With Refugees.
How To Help:
>Donate or Fundraise >Spread the Word >Sign a Petition: Sign the #WithRefugees petition to send a clear message to governments that they must act with solidarity and shared responsibility. |

STUFH: Students Teaming Up to Fight Hunger!
We had a service week beginning September 24th through 29th that was dedicated to our District Project: STUFH!
|
For our service project this past September, we partnered up with STUFH to raise awareness among college students about hunger in their local communities. Started in 1998, STUFH is a non-profit organization devoted to assisting and inspiring food drives at colleges and universities across the country. With over 500 colleges participating, more than 3 million pounds of Food Stuff have been donated!
We hosted a food drive until October 5th and all collected goods was donated to the Houston Food Bank. Non-perishable goods such as canned or boxed food were accepted and collection boxes were placed in specific locations such as residential halls, M.D. Anderson Library, and our CKI carrel space #29. |
